Coop 2.0 - Nearly Complete

Could very well be.....I read it as "NO" in German.
Nah, it was stated in a previous message... "northern Indiana".

Northeast Indiana is the location.

The gambrel frames were folded in half on delivery, so they are spliced. I reinforced them all with a second unspliced 2x4. There's a 6x6 under the south side of the coop. There's room to get a hydraulic jack underneath it, and once jacked, place an axle to move it. Moving buildings is never fun, but it could be done.

The clear roofing/siding works great. Maximizes light, cost difference was negligible. It held up fine to being screwed into place, and is showing no signs of wear or tear in the first six months.

Ok, sounds like you have it figured out...I needed the typing practice, I guess.

I'm thinking about incorporating a sheet of the clear poly in my roof. I'm considering the tinted version as I'm down here in the sunny south.

Great update.
Whenever I see a gambrel roof shed, I think.... "they should do what these folks did"

What is your climate?
NEIN on giving your location, huh?

It's actually in the first post. Northern Indiana. Betting it's Northeastern Indiana thus the NEIN. :)

Had to make a nest box adjustment this week. While most of the summer they laid without issue in the rollout boxes, in the last month or so, with increasing frequency they had been depositing their eggs in floor nests.

I dismantled the rollout boxes all together and installed traditional next boxes with a hinged roof that can still be accessed from the human side of the divider wall. I also lowered the nests to about 10" off the ground. They can now see in the nests, and they are traditional nests with bedding in them.

No eggs laid outside or on the coop floor since. Not much of a change really. They are still pickable without accessing the chicken side of the divider wall. It did cost me a little space, as when they were higher, the birds could mingle under them, and that option is lost now.

Small trade-off in the grand scheme, and better function for the birds I think.
