coop advice

Thanks for your comments on our coop! Unfortunately it doesn't look quite so pristine anymore. How do they get poop flung about the walls, I'd like to know?!? But it's working out well. When it's 12 degrees outside, it stays fairly warm in there. The lowest I have seen at night, with the pop-hole closed, is 29.

Have you lifted them up ontp the roost to show them what its for? I'd recommend going out there just at dusk when they're settling in and lifting them up onto it. They may be sleepy enough to settle in and then get the picture.
Is it a 2x4 with the flat side up? The other thought I had is that if its too small or slippery they might not find it comfortable.

They do go on it all the time, but I have never witnessed sleeping on it. It is a 2x4 with the flat side up. We have quite a small coop, a tractor in fact but enough room for them, but I think my hubby may have put it too close to the ground. It's only about 8" off the ground area.....maybe that is it too?
