HI;

I am currently using wood shavings over concrete for the floor in my coop. The hens are currently spending most of there time in the coop. It is spacious and has many areas to perch.

They scratch alot so it keeps the bedding worked up and doesn't smell too bad.

But I was thinking I read somewhere about someone using the scoop able cat liter in the bottom of there coop. The coop is large enough, that it would probably take 4 or 5 of those $10 contains of cat liter to do a decent job covering the floor.

However, if it worked as well as it does with the cat, then it would rarely need changing if it was just scooped out every several days.

Any thoughts on this, anyone try it?

Thanks

Jamie

Are those the same kind of pellets they sell for horse stall bedding? Or are you talking about wood pellets like for a wood stove?

How do they do with odor?
thanks

Either will work. Odor is almost entirely eleminated.

Is there anything hazardous to watch out for in any of the wood pellets? Or are they just wood?

Thanks, sorry if that is a stupid question

There is absolutely nothing in them that will harm chicks. I usually wait until they are on sale, often almost half price, and buy 3 or 4 pallets full.

How often do you find you need to change the coop bedding completely with the pellets?
