Hello,
I thought I would share my coop build in detailed pictures. Maybe someone can find them useful, inspirational or both. A little background:

It all started at the beginning of the lock down everything was closed, even the forest. My wife left an article from Country Living magazine (April 2020) "The beginner's Guide to Backyard Chickens" on my desk. As luck would have it we had just received our stimulus check and I had cabin fever and needed something to do. Some of the chicken coops in the article were very cute and it didn't seem too hard to keep chickens. I started researching coops on line and in person at the farm supply stores. None of them seemed substantial enough for me considering the price and the level of care I had in mind. Some of the online home built coops were works of art and inspired me to try my hand at it. This is the result:

The beams are 4"x6"x10' pressure treated.

The joists are 2"x6"x12' cut in half. I used heavy weight tar paper to help keep ground moisture off the flooring.

The side walls are 2"x4" on 24" centers.

The sheathing is T-111.

The door is so the chickens could go into the greenhouse in the winter.

The nest boxes are double walled with 1" foam block.

The walls and ceiling are R19 insulated.

View attachment 2938561 There are two of these doors. One at the back of the coop opposite the front door and the other just inside the front door leading tot he greenhouse. They can be opened and closed from outside the coop next to the front door. The cable runs inside the wall and is attached to a large washer.

I used a single sheet of linoleum for the floor. The slots in the back wall are for the poop chute to empty outside. There is a door on the outside held shut by a magnet.

The chute is a piece of sheet metal.

I made these ramps for the 2 doors. I used the leftover shingles to roof the three nest boxes.
