Good morning friends
It's a long story but I'll try and make is short I am looking for advice..
I had 12 healty hens tell I brought home a free rooster and then all of a sudden all my hens became sick I lost all but 2 hens and the free rooster that was given to me, I used antibodic and probiotics but still lost 10 hens to whatever they had some kinda respiratory infection...
Now I need to rebuild my flock and raise more chicks but my worries are if the coop and last of my birds will make the new chicks sick when it is time to put them out there? Any advice as what I can do? I don't want to lose all my new chicks....
I added a picture of my hen house it's a basic plywood 10x10 house I built about 2 years ago...

What a cute coop!

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss.
Were you able to find out what respiratory illness your flock had?

Sorry to say, it is possible that the 2 survivors of your flock could be carriers of whatever illness affected the others and yes, new chickens could become ill as well.
It's one of those things - it might happen, it might not.

You could try using a product like Virkon S or Oxine to clean the coop to see if that helps, but if your 2 hens are carriers...then likely that won't make much of a difference.

Well it depends on what respiratory disease it was, some stay in the chickens for the rest of their lives, others don't, no way to know without trying to add new chickens and hope they don't get sick or sending a dead one to a vet to clarify which one if was...
