It's been a while - oops! But the previous owner didn't like to clean the coop too much since it helped keep it insulated? It doesn't really get that cold in WA and we are entering a warm time. I'm taking out all the bedding, there are some really old layers, idk if it's dirt, poop, decomposed pine shavings... There is a layer at the bottom that is like caked on... Bleh!

Anyway, I'm not sure if I should scrub it out with anything like vinegar, or something... I'm not even sure if I should use water...all I really planned on doing was scooping/scraping out everything and putting in new pine shavings. Lemme know if I should be doing something more. I would appreciate a speedy responce because this is happening right now ;)

Got all the dirt and stuff out, letting it dry~ I found a couple weird worms/grubs inside ;(

I think you did a great job. That is hard work. As you add new bedding and clean for your chickens it will come cleaner. Them scratching and just walking will loosen the remainder. What do you think, is it clean to your standard?

Well, I didn't "sanitize" it, it was a lot of work, I pried up a lot of buildup that was damp underneath so I feel like it is way cleaner and healthier for the girls. I myself felt more comfortable sitting inside, where as before it was like "everything is covered in poop, try not to get it all over me!"

If I read something better to do, it will be easy now to just clear out the layer of shavings and apply those techniques so I think I'm happy ;0

My only concern at this point is that it will freak the girls out to the point they won't lay for a while or sleep outside! They have done weird things like that under stress before!

They don't really care for change. They may stop laying for a few , but once they get comfortable with everything they should do great. Good luck!

I just hope they get a chance to settle down quickly so I can start te de-worming process when the shipment arrives!
