Hi. I'm new to BYC and raising chickens. But, I have a background in architecture so someone asked me to design coops for a grant project. Yikes! Anyways, I did a lot of research and have come up with the following design. Sorry the plans are more in construction drawing language than others. We have built this one prototype and have made revisions, now I'm starting one for my yard which will have a larger run 8'-7"x12' for my six ladies. Four of them are expected to be large so I decided the original run of 6'x8' wasn't adequate. I'm training my dog around the chickens but want something that if they can't free range, will be more than adequate

Notes on the photos:
There will be doors for all the openings
The roof has plywood under corrugated composite material
I've moved the pop door up to allow for deep litter
the side windows go all the way up to the roofline now.

Let me know what you think.

2 coronation sussex, 1 black orphington, 1 jubilee orphington.

OMG!! Real drawings!!!...Heaven for this old drafter!!!
Don't have time to scour it...
...but first thing I suggest is rafters on top of walls with large roof overhangs all the way around(yes, fly rafters), high and low of sloped roof open soffits with HC coverings for great year round ventilation.

Here's some tips on heights.

Oh, and.... Welcome to BYC! @JessChook
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

Thanks for all these resources! Yes, agreed about the roof. The framing is a bit unconventional because there were very limited funds. Adding my geographic info now. It's Carbondale, southern Illinois. We are a bit hot and humid in the summer and get some snow and freezing in the winter. https://www.google.com/maps/place/C...646bd10fcf17b3!8m2!3d37.7272727!4d-89.2167501
