I have four chicks now and I'm getting three more bantams soon for a total of seven. I'm building the coop and I'm halfway through with the frame done and six nesting boxes. I then realized one can turn out to be a roo or one could pass away. Do you thing there is such thing as too big of coop?

Edit: i know i dont need that many boxes but it fits better than only using two or three. And if a get a roo i have to give him away

too big? nah, I don't think so.....but u don't need 6 nesting boxes for 7 hens. I have 2 nesting boxes for 5 hens, and they all use the same one anyway.

One could be a roo. And then you could have chicks! So, no, not too big. There's no such thing as a too-big coop.

BTW, for 7 chickens - even if all hens - you won't need 6 nesting boxes. Three max. And, at that, they'll probably only use two.

Haha speaking of too many nest boxes, I use an old rabbit hutch so It's has 6 nests and I only have 4 hens :'D

I have too many too but they fit nicely and I figure that way if I get more or if someone goes broody (they can all be moved / unattached) then I still have room for the other ladies.

So true no coop or runs can never be too bigNest box i have 6 hens who will wait in line for this one box or 2 squeeze in at once2- 3 would be good
