Hello! I have a couple of quick questions about expanding my existing coop. Currently, I have the large snap lock coop that is attaches to a 6x12 enclosed run. I’ve had it for three years and it has been fantastic!
Questions #1- how many hens do you keep in this coop? It recommends 10-12 but depending on breeds it just wouldn’t work. I currently have 3 ladies (2 pioneer and one white leghorn) in it but have since acquired 6 more chics ( 3 Ameraucanas, 2 cuckoo maran, 1 Welsummer).
I also have a fenced 20x15 area and free range.
Question #2- Ideally I would like to just one large coup (maybe a shed conversion) but I may not be able to get it done in a reasonable time frame. If I just added a second coop to the existing run, what are the odds of them using BOTH coops (eventually) rather than all piling into one?
Thanks for your reading and suggestions!

ALLLLLLLLL the manufacturers over rate their coop capacities. I'm not sure what your snap lock coop looks like . A pix would help. You also do not have location in your profile. You could be any where on this planet. If you were in a warm area like Hawaii, or Mexico, I would just suggest to get some roosts in your SECURE RUN, and don't worry about it until you get your ideal coop built. That way if your coop is overcrowded, the extras will sleep outside. Jungle fowl, and domesticated fowl in many areas like Hawaii and LA.(California) sleep in the wild open areas.
If you want to expand your current coop, then remove one wall and add 3 wall extension plus roof, so you finished product is one contained room.
WISHING YOU BEST.........:thumbsup
