This is great!!
So dogs that can herd ducks can also herd sheep?
...or are there duck herding trails?

Hey yes! There are duck, cattle, sheep, turkey, goat trials put on by different organizations - American Kennel Club, American Herding Breeds Assoc., Australian Shepherd Club of America, and a plethora of Border Collie associations and clubs. It takes a lot of training and work to earn titles on your dog. I call my Laekenois all round farm dogs on my tiny farm. They help me with chores i.e. feed, move, hold them while I trim hooves or give medicine to my sheep. My herding champion has titles on sheep, ducks and cattle. It's a wonderful, challenging, difficult but rewarding sport. Far more rewarding than my decades as an AKC conformation judge.

I'd add framing, so you can attach the hardware cloth to it, along with your existing fence. We used fencing staples, and then covered each seam with 1"x4" boards, screwed to the framing, which is mostly 4"x6" posts.
Thinking ahead about those raccoons reaching in, and two 100 lb. dogs tearing at it. For bears, electric is the only thing...

In winter we use two layers of rolled plastic (vinyl) on the lower 6' as a windbreak.
