Coop in Hot TEXAS more ventalation?

We are in Texas, too. I built my coop about a month ago, so it hasn't officially gone through a summer. But it's under trees, has three windows, and the backside is mostly hardware cloth.

I agree with lots of ventilation! Not sure if I'm gonna shut the pop door every night when its super hot and humid...

Mine is open air, the North side is partially walled to protect during cold weather (don't get much).
We added a pop door and ramp a few months ago. Um, just realized I do not have any updated pictures of the coop! Been taking all these chickie pictures and forgot about it.

Great question and Ill ask, about the snow/sub freezing days when we do have them. I'm outside of Austin and was concerned about this, not that we have them all that often. I may need to modify my plans.

Great info about the tree shade. I did not know that. My coop and run are under a canopy of large oak trees. It just gets so dang hot here I hope no one croaks from the heat. I told the DH that I would be putting diapers on them and bringing them all inside. He was less than happy about that idea.

Another consideration is which direction the open areas face. My mom taught me that the prevailing winds in summer come from the south and blow north and east. In winter it's reversed, with winter winds blowing from the north toward the southwest. So I always make sure the south and east are open at least. My garage has it's doors on the south and east sides and it nearly always has a breeze blowing through it in the summer. I've done the coop the same way. So don't have the solid wall on the south or you'll be blocking the majority of your summer breeze.
