Coop input (pic heavy!)

I would say repaint the sides and use something different for the roof and you should be fine. The sides look like they are in good enough shape.

replace roof and it should work

Thanks!!!

I think we are going to use it as a temporary coop until we can build a better one in a few months. The chicks are only a few weeks old so they won't be in there for long.

What should we put along the bottom of the chainlink? Hardware cloth? And do we put it on the inside or outside?

I'm super excited about these girls...They are already so much fun...And I'm glad to have such great resources-all of you!

Hardware cloth is the safest bet. I have seen raccoons pull chicks through regular chicken wire and dog kennels. I also reccomend covering a portion of the outside run for rainy days and snow days. When the grass in the run turns to dirt and it rains it turns to smelly mud and then they track it into the coop. I vote for new roof too. Building a new coop seems to be on your horizon as well. Good luck

Buy some 2x4's, 19/32 exterior plywood, hardware cloth, latches, paint, roofing material and start from scratch. Use hardware cloth for at least the bottom 3' of the pen...or you will eventually lose your chickens, hence, any investment.
