I have 2 girls I purchased from a local feed store, of course I purchased them before I built the coop. Having them in my extra bedroom for 6 weeks was a wonderful motivator to get the coop done. I spent oodles and oodles of hours looking here on the forums, at pre-made, and custom coop designs. Once the coop was complete my 23 year old son, came out and asked why I was building a mini lifeguard tower...

I wanted to post the pictures and thank everyone who has done so before me, all of those pictures and opinions helped a TON!! Since the first picture was taken the ramp has been installed, but the girls still haven't figured out what to do with it.

I am working on what the run design will be, the backside of the bottom section folds down for access. I am working acclimating my dogs to the girls, and living with the coop where it is for a bit to determine the best run placement and design. Wondering if I want to build a mini chicken yard vs a enclosed run etc.

Here are the girls checking out the view:

Overall I think the coop has more hardware and doors per sq. foot than my house. I used leftover fence boards from a recent fence rebuild we did on one side of our property. Thanks for looking =)

very nice! Love the colors you chose....very cheery!

Your girls will enjoy it. Too bad they have to poop it up when it's all new and clean! :)

I just moved my six pullets from my basement to the coop (their run isn't finished). I have 4 dogs...the toy poodle is dying to get at the chickens. We don't know if he's just curious or wants to make a meal of them. My 14 year old Boston Terrier hasn't even figured out ere's something alive in Thecoop and the other two Boston's don't seem to care. I'm not quite sure how to handle it when it's time to free range. I think I'll do 6 chickens vs one dog at a time. That way, I can control the dog and hope the chickens stick up for themselves as a flock.

Love it! I particularly like your double-door opening in the front. That will make life easier for you when it comes time to clean it out. The colors are great and I know your girls are going to be very happy there.

And, I agree with nab58 about when you put them in the coop. The first time they poop in it, it's almost like getting that first scratch on a new car. Don't worry, the fun of watching your girls in it and - ultimately, the eggs - makes it all better!

Nice little coop! I used cedar fence boards too, had to buy them, but they cost what ply would have and gave it more character. Where on the central coast are you? I'm in Paso. I think your chicks are gonna like their new home.

We live down in Ventura, my hubbs drives up to paso for work occasionally. Thanks for the kind comment =)

Thanks everyone!

I have to tell you, my dad laughed and laughed about my coop being too fancy. He grew up on his grandparent's farm in Iowa. Secretly he likes it though, since he seems to be over more frequently to watch the chicken show.

I will post more pictures when I decide on a run. Hopefully the girls will figure out the ramp, I've tried treats, bribery, everything. One sorta fell down the ramp yesterday but neither showed any desire to head back up after dark. I crawled under and coaxed them and scooched them back up. It must have looked pretty funny.

I have to mention that Hazel, the brown and black (possibly a wyandotte). Has a lovely sunset serenade she sings every evening, it's the funniest thing!

The ramp is one of those things they take time if they haven't been raised from chicks using a ramped coop. keep an eye on them as I had a Duck once that fell down the ramp and had a fit and died (prob knocked her head)
