I’ve attached a picture of our coop, or rather that the bones. It will be located inside an existing shed that we already have, the coop will be 4’x8’ and have an open ceiling (hardware cloth). Now I’m trying to figure out where to place nesting boxes, roost, and a door for us to access the coop. I’m also trying to figure out water and food placement but I realize I have to decide what type I want to use before that’s able to happen 😬

I was thinking nesting boxes under the window (wall B) and roost/poop board on wall D. I’ve also never raised chickens so if anyone has any recommendations that’d be great! We have 4 Speckled Sussex and located in Central MN. 🥶
Please refer to the letters when making recommendations! I’m a visual learner so this helps me more than you 😜

I would put the nest boxes on wall A using rollaway boxes with access from outside. Then run a single roost bar and poop tray on wall C.

Food and water outside.

Use wall B for a brooder area if you ever add chicks.

I would:
  • Center a top hinged window, 1/2" hardware cloth backed, along wall A.
  • Install a 30-32" human access door all the way on the right side of wall C that swings out into the shed.
  • Install an L-shaped poop board along walls C and D, starting from the door jamb.
  • Install hardware cloth backed vents under the eaves.
