here's a rough draft of what we want to build. it's 12' x 12' and 6' tall with a wire mesh ceiling and a pigeon loft up top. it will be attached to a 12 x 23 run that we already have. let us know what you think about it.

front view: you can see the opening to the pigeon loft and also the vent holes. the window will have a flower box under it. we may put a screen door inside the wooden door for those muggy louisiana summers.

side view(run side): nothing special here. may add a window. you see the roof and the chicken door.

Sounds and looks like a real nice coop. I would go with more windows for sure. Our coop has only 1 window, it's 70 outside and already kinda stuffy and it's in the shade.

We live in Pa. We will adding more windows soon. I like the sliders or roll outs you find on campers. Built in screen to prevent bugs, yet still gives a nice air flow.

Good Luck with you coop!

I would also add more windows I have 4 in mine. But I live in Florida and even with 4 it gets muggy inside. I was thinking of putting in a window fan to help with the heat. My coop is 10x12 so 12x12 would be a nice size coop. Good luck and post pics when you get it done. Twila

How tall is the tallest person who will go in? Make it at least 6" to 1' taller than the tallest person. Even then, you'll feel like ducking.........

I'm 6' and mine at the shortest is 6'6" and 8' at the peak. At 8' there is no room for pigeon loft. I put pigeon pen on far wall so my helmits can fly in winter w/chickens and fly outside rest of time. They go in and out w/chickens.

I'm 5'10". the way i planned it was 6' all the way accross, by way of a wire ceiling with the loft up top. maybe that wont work though. oh well back to the drawing board, i guess. thanks
