coop question...after thought

Okay...new to this "chicken" thing...love it, but am so inexperienced.

The coop I love, my husband did a great job on the construction. I read on here that basically paraphrasing, if a chicken can get hurt, it will. I noticed that the one area where the roof meets the base, mind went blank of the technical term (plate, just remembered), had the roof nails sticking through, and there was the 2 x 4 which at 5 weeks of age was just enough of an opportunity for them to go that much higher.

Should I cover it with wire? Really am on a restricted budget. Need a "cheap" fix. Any help?

Can your DH grind off the nail tips sticking through?

You mean to just make them not sharp? Yes, is that all that needs to be done? That still won't cause problems if they get up fast. On their heads?

DH says just grind them flat with a 4" right angle grinder.
