This is my coop and run, I'm beating myself up about not being able to free range but with my cats and the local fix that has had everyone else's free range hens I can't risk it,

My question my coop has a tray that pulls out for cleaning , but where the tray slides in and out, at the front and at the back, there is a small gap, a mouse could get in I'm sure,
Surely that's not right?
I actually wish my coop was either flush to the floor, I'd just have to lift it to clean it
Or raised up a foot or two

Any suggestions for a safer coop
Here is a close up of it

Can you build a base and lift it onto the base? It doesn't look like it's more than 150 pounds. A tough but quick lift and the whole thing with the new base could be scooted over to the run. You'd have to build a longer, steeper ramp...

Hi yes I could that's probably a very good idea, my only prob might be the run is built around the coop so any wood will have to be done inside the run, but that's not an issue

Just one other thing I noticed. You have regular chicken wire surrounding the run. Foxes can easily rip through that wire. A better choice would be 1/2" hardware cloth.

Nice setup otherwise! :-) Cute little coop.

Hi yes I keep telling my husband a fox will get through but he won't have it!
Luckily we are home and usually very close by, my garden studio over looks the run
And if I'm out I put them into a smaller hardware cloth run
They are locked in the coop at night
I have bought some hardware cloth and I'm going to start replacing each panel as I can afford it,
I think the panel are old pheasant pens we just joined them up with fencing posts and have flags to make a path around
The outside and stop and digging
