I will be getting 10 chicks in 10 days and am planning on building a 4 ft x 8 ft x 4 ft tall coop. Will this be large enough? I do not know the breed, they are from a local hatchery and sold as "browns" and are a dual purpose bird. Also, what would be a good size run for this number of birds? I would like to keep it as small as possible, to be able to move it around but still have enough room. I plan to let them have full run of the yard when I am home and can keep an eye on them, just need some space for them to run while I am at work.

hi and welcome! every thing you'll read here about size per chicken, and every response you'll get will be 4 sq ft per bird inside, 10 sq ft per bird outside. so you'll need 40 sq ft coop, 100 sq ft run. these are pretty much considered the minimums, more is better! for moveable, you need to study the tractors, those are the easiest to move, but won't have that much run. if you're gonna free range them most of the time, you won't have to go that big outside....
