We are training our first batch of chicks to go back into the coop on their own at night. We heard the suggestion to leave them cooped up for a solid week and that should do the trick. Tomorrow we let them out but my question is, do we leave their food and water inside the coop so they will be more likely to go back in the coop or do we pull it back outside?

I leave the food and water Inside the coop. I do have an extra watered outside the coop near where they like to hang out during the day. I want to make sure they always have clean water to drink. I have found that shaking a container of freeze dried mealy worms and calling here chicky and dropping a few worms and walking back to the coop the girls follow me.. Also if I wait awhile they all go back inside on their own as soon as it gets to be dusk.. I leave the coop open and when I get out there everyone is up on their perches ready to be closed in for the night.

Thank you for the tips! I'm hoping they will put themselves away themselves but it's also good to have a trick to get them in when i want them in.
