Coop treatment

Does anyone know of a safe wood preservative that I can use on my store bought coops. They seem to deteriorate fast and I was wanting to make them last longer.

I painted mine. It seems to have done the trick. It's been 3 1/2 years, and it's holding up well. I do live in a mild climate, however.

Exterior latex paint should be enough.

Exterior paint or exterior polyurethane would be my choice. I've used water-based polyurethane on several wood projects and like it a lot. I do live in CA without deep winter so that may have an effect on things
