coop ventilation

Hello everyone.

My new coop is almost finish

The size of the coop is 32" x 32" with a 32" x 14" nesting box.
The coop is siting on a run that mesure 6 foot long by 3 foot wide.

There a hole in the coop floor with a ramp to acces the run.

I have 1 pullet and 1 cokerel ( will change the cokerel for another pullet soon)

I was wondering if i have to make hole near the roof for having some fresh air to get into
the coop ?? For now, night are cold (40F) but during the summer it might get hot in the coop.

Welcome! It's really tiny; are they bantams? Pictures would help a lot here. In general, ventilation is most important and trumps concern about the cold weather. Pictures! Mary

I dont know witch breed they are !!
The size of the coop is a little bit small but i will never put more than 2 hens in it.
Anyway, they only climb in the coop for sleep. Water and food are in the Run.

I will takes some pictures tomorow.

I would put in one of those turbine vents that the wind turns and plug it with insulation in the winter.

I would add a vent on each end for cross ventilation, they look feathered out nicely i would remove the light before one breaks the bulb and you have a fire,move the roost higher than the nestbox ,i would also switch it out for a 2x4 flat side up. Otherwise it looks good.

The light is in there temporary. The forecast for the next days are rain with temperature under 32F during the night.
Is the hens will able to jump that high If i put the roost over the nestbox ??

Absolutely, mine can go straight up to a 5ft high roost in 1 jump,if not block off the boxes and move it higher when they are older, it only has to be a little bit higher than the boxes.
