We finished my new coop just before winter setin here in Tennessee in November. Since we had good ventilation, we put off cutting out windows til spring.
When my run collapsed during first of the year and DH had me a new one built they tied it into the back side of the coop really nicely!
My satins are 5 months old and have been roosting on their front porch instead of going inside the coop to sleep each night...even with it dipping into the 30s!
So because of my lack of skills I am wondering if I even need to try and cut out windows on the coop since they aren't sleeping in there anyways.
Tennessee has hot humid summers for quite a while which means I'm sure they will sleep outside since they already are and it in 30s! All is secure with ½" 19 gauge hardware cloth.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Pics are for reference of our setup.
First pic is before stairs were added.
Second pic shows current setup but very upclose...all I had on my phone.
If you need more information or visual let me know please.

First thought is...why are they not sleeping in the coop?
Maybe the ventilation is not a good as you think?

Pics of the inside of coop showing roosts and vents, as well as outside pics showing whole coop and roof, would certainly help here.

I would still put windows in. They need some light in the coop.
Edit: there is a reason they are not sleeping in the coop.

They could very well not be going in the coop at roost time because it's too dark for them. I would absolutely install windows.
You can look on CL or wherever in your area people sell old windows and get a size that will work for your coop.
But you will still need to frame out the opening to receive the window. I installed 5 old windows on all 4 sides of my coop, top hinged and hang them open with a hook and chain. I installed barrel bolts at the bottom sides to secure them closed for the winter. The 1/2" HC is installed inside to secure the openings.

Well the weird thing is they were going into sleep in the coop. Not roosting as they are satins and 5 months old, work in progress and I may need to try different roost bars that are wider.
But they just stopped going in and sleeping 3 nights ago. Very strange.
Rainy and dark here so will try to def get pics tomorrow.

Dimensions of the coop are 4'x10' and atleast 8' tall in center then shorter on the sides where the monitor roof isnt.

It's bitter cold n windy here so I went down to double check the coop and see if they would go in.
They did just like they have in thr past when I was putting them in - no problem.
So after a week or two of me doing that they were doing it on their own for few weeks.
Then past 2 or 3 nights stopped.
So the fact they are in there after I went back to old way of doing it and they weren't pitching a fit, is it possible it's just cuz they are young and all this is still new or yall think I still have a problem?

Photos and dimensions would help us help you
Ok yall finally got pics in daylight.
Dimensions are on pics.
I have a feeling they may not be roosting inside the coop cuz there are no stairs/ramp to get on it. If isn't the girls on the roost bar one will stay but then I have to get her down next morning.
