Good morning, everyone. I had posted about a lethargic 4 week-old chick yesterday. As a recap, the night before last, we came home to a lethargic baby. I’ve done everything I was supposed to. I thought she was just chilled from the water spilling, but now I’m thinking coccidia. I’ve been trying to feed her a mash of yogurt and chick feed, but she won’t eat. She didn’t eat at all yesterday. The only poop I’ve seen has been stuck to her feathers since she’s been sitting. My other chicks are fine, but I know I need to treat them as well. My question is do I use the severe outbreak dose for everyone? My TSC doesn’t open for 2 more hours, and I want to know what I’m doing as soon as I get back. Also, how long after treatment to I give them yogurt? Any help is appreciated. I really wish I would have treated her yesterday now. I don’t know if she’ll make it, but I have to try. :(

I am no expert but had a similar issue recently. The experts here said to go with the severe dosage below for the flock.

Do you have photos of the chick and her poop?

Yes, give the "severe" dosage to everyone.

Dosage is 1 1/2 teaspoons Corid powder or 2 teaspoons of 9.6% Corid liquid per gallon of water.
Give for 5-7 days - make sure this is the ONLY water available during that time period. Mix a fresh batch at least once a day.

AFTER you finish treatment, offer the yogurt/probiotics and some poultry vitamins.

If she has poop stuck to her bottom, gently clean that off, if you wash her, dry her with a hair dryer so she doesn't get chilled. A sick bird needs to be kept at around 80F.

Offer her a wet mash of feed and encourage her to drink the medicated water.

Thank you! I’ve been keeping the poop off of her. I cleaned her first thing, and there is nothing there right now. Next time I’ll take a picture.

Wyorp Rock hit the nail on the head. If you have the choice at your TSC I would suggest liquid corid. You can give them all a drop in their beak to get the medication started in their system. Then follow up as directed in their water. Best of luck.
