Just wanting some quick advice...really didn't think we'd get this far :O)!! We've got a Cornish who's been sitting for well, 20+ days

! I went out tonight to clean out the coop (home to 25 hens and 1 Roo) and hear peeping!!!! I was shocked to say the least -- I checked under the hen and sure enough, one has pipped! (only two left out of the 4 she was setting on) -- Anyways, my question is this -- will they be okay?? I haven't got a separate place for her to be on her own with her little ones--will she protect the babies, or do I need to pull the babies and keep them in the house for a bit?? My other question is, our nesting box is about 3ft off the ground....I'm worried about them "falling out"...there is a ramp, but it's over to the right of the nesting box -- any suggestions/advice anything is greatly appreciated

well, you should seperate her but she might not like that. The worst thing would be for her to abandon them now. Try it though, she might be ok. Mothers are usually very protective of their young but a more dominant her may try and steal the babies. Try and get a box in an area all by itself on the ground so they cant fall. Give them water and chick starter and let mother nature do her thing!

Good luck!

Is it okay to leave it in the "main coop"? I don't want to pull her out and then have her go through the pecking order all over again, but I don't want to lose the little one either....I've got an area set on the bottom of the coop for her.....I've been kind of checking often to see when she ends up hatching the babies out and hopefully I'll be able to move them to the bottom of the coop with the food and water and little shelter boxes...I've tried a few times to get her to go to the bottom of the cage and she won't now...man if I would have know it was going to work, I would have done something different earlier in the game!!
