I was wondering....

1. how long Cornish Rocks need a heat lamp?

2. when do you usually butcher them?

3. How big are they when u butcher them?

4. What feed did u give them?

Thanks!

You will get more answers if you post this in the "Meat Bird" section, but I will give you my opinion.

1. Heat lamp until they are fully feathered, usually about 3 weeks. The quicker you start reducing the heat, the quicker they will feather out.

2. I butcher at 8 weeks. Average weight is between 4 1/2 and 5 pounds, dressed. I get some 3 1/2 pounders and usually get a handfull of 7 pounders.

4. I feed an unmedicated, 23% feed from day one until day 55. Restrict feed to 12 hours a day at 2 weeks old.

You may want to consider some kind of moveable tractor for them to be housed. They produce a tremendous amount of stinky poo, and I feel they do much better raised where they can take advantage of sunshine.
