Cornish X can't run/don't range-who says? (pics)

There is a farmer not far from me that allows his to range also. I'm really not sure, but his always seem happy and plump, and he operates a succesful CSA and seems to have happy customers per his website.

I wonder how much food you are actually saving? I have had a few chickens totally live off free range and spilled feed for awhile but I would think that many would deplete food sources quick.

I can say with certainty that my Cornish X never strayed that far from the tractor unless the feeders were empty and I was coming towards them to refill.
