Hey... I posted a few days ago saying that I was being given some Cornish X that were way over due for slaughter. I had decided to keep them for a few days before I had them done, to check for worms, etc. Well, I was just outside and one is pooping blood! Is this a sign of worms? Something else? Also, one is sneezing... Is this just upper respitory (sp?) issues due to them being over grown? Or could it be something that we souldn't eat them over? Another thing, I am going looking for pics of bumble foot right now, because I think that atleast one of them has it...

I am starting to think that this was a bad idea! Let me know about my questions... Thanks in advance!

The blood is a symptom of coccidiosis, which will not make the meat unedible. Same with the sneezing and bumble foot. Just process them asap before they die. i would let those hogs rest in the fridge for 4-5 days as older birds are going to have tougher meat.

Ok... So even though that the bird has cocci, it is ok to eat? I wouldn't have thought that. Thank you!

If anybody else has input please keep posting! I will continue to check this!

To the best of my knowledge they are fine to eat.Once you do any medicating then they are unsafe to eat for a while. Your best bet is to proccess them now.

Well, they are in another pen (chipboard sides, hardware cloth top), but they are sort of near each other. Not together, but close.

Yea... I think that is what we will do. Trouble is, we are having them done (not doing ourselves) so ASAP, is whenever they can get them in...

Okay, I have very little experience with meat birds, but I do know that with rabbits if bumblefoot gets too bad, then it gets systemic. You'll know when you start processing it, but in rabbits it's not pretty. If you just suspect bumblefoot, it's probably not that far yet.
