hello from pa here. i am new to raising meat chickens. i am looking for a good way to feed them a healthier diet other than gorging themselves to death.

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

There are definitely different strategies for feeding meat birds. Try posting in the meat bird or cornish cross threads, in forum under feeding and watering your flock

Go to the Welp Hatchery web page. They have a good section on raising Cornish X. We feed ours turkey starter, turkey grower, and if we keep them long enough, turkey finisher. Let them have feed about 12 hours and then take it away for twelve. Ours have feed from seven in the morning until seven at night. Welp says to start limiting the feed at five days. Have the feed at one end of the pen and water at the other so they have to walk a bit. Some people hang the feeders so they must stand to eat. I like to put Broiler Booster, available from Murray McMurray in the water from start to finish. I think it helps but I have not done a controlled study to test that theory.
