What’s could be going on with the hen that laid this egg? All my three 6-month old layers seem perfectly healthy. We got one more egg today that was perfectly normal.

She's gone artistic ? It may be a temporary glitch in her reproductive tract. In my experience it tends to happen at the start or end of a laying cycle. If it becomes chronic it may indicate reproductive tract disease.

Sometimes that can be a sign of infectious bronchitis, a common respiratory disease that causes sneezing. There are a few other possible causes. Have you noticed any of your hens sneezing? Here is a link about egg shell problems:

Thanks but wouldn’t I notice bronchitis symptoms? My ladies all seem so healthy visually.
