Coryza: should I give Sulmet to the well chickens?

Ok, I have 4 pens of chickens. Laying hens, big kids (6-8 weeks), little kids (4 weeks), and babies (5 days.) The big kids have coryza. I've made the decision to cull them all tonight, even though only 6 of the 8 are showing symptoms.

So my question is... do I give Sulmet to the other chickens as a preventative measure, or do I wait for symptoms? Can I give Sulmet to the babies?

All 4 groups are kept in their own little worlds, though they're close enough to share the same air. The little kids have been in a brooder that the big kids used, up until I started seeing symptoms in the big kids. So far, nobody else has symptoms.

So I've made the decision to cut my losses with the big kids. But what do I do with the others? Wait and see? Or give everyone Sulmet and throw away the eggs for awhile?

I do not recommend giving sulmet to your other birds. Direct bird to bird contact, sneezing and snotting droplets onto other birds, contaminated waterers and feeders can infect your other birds. A change of clothes and shoes, personal hygiene will prevent it from spreading to your other birds. Think biosecurity. Hopefully your pens are seperated far enough from the infected birds. You are doing the right thing by culling them. Here's a link, scroll down to Infectious Coryza and read about it if you wish.

Dawg53,

I've read some of your other posts regarding coryza while making my decision whether or not to cull these. Thanks for your advice. I'll watch all of these carefully to see if they show symptoms.

Some of the other chicks were separated by only a wall of the house. And the big kids were out a few times in the mini-coop, which is separated from the laying hens by a wall of fencing and chicken wire. The hens don't spend much time in that corner, but do go over there occasionally. That coop has since been doused with bleach cleanser.
