so I have been looking for some BBS orps for ages... finally found someone local that is hatching eggs out of some quality parents. discussing price and sex and I had mentioned that ideally I wanted around 6 hens and 1 rooster. she said that holding the babies till she was sure of sex would be better for her (I think she may want to hold roosters back for show prospects) and that 6 2-3 month old hens plus a rooster would be $75. I thought that was a great price, really. dh just wants to know what you guys think...hes never bought anything other then hatchery cheap day olds. I literally went squee at the price, but really 2 months olds that are sexed and already started is the price good?

I would get about 10 chicks and you probably will get atleast 5 hens. You could probably get 10 chicks for 10 dollars. Why dont you get chicks from my pet chicken? They have a minimum of 3 chickens and they even have sexed bantams.

I would be getting for positive though 6 hens 1 rooster out of quality non hatchery stock and not a single hatchery sells BBS orpingtons as day old chicks...straight run or not they just dont sell them.

If you want Bantam chicks sexed from My Pet Chicken, it looks like you will pay 10.00 for each hen and 6.00 for each roo. So your deal is better than My Pet Chicken. Hope that helps

I personally think this is worth it as you are getting what you want for a bird that is not common in most areas. I would ask though which colors you would be getting as depending on how you breed them, it will tell what you colors you will get as offspring.
