Cost of Eggs by State January 2010

Well, this is helpful info! We also live in the front range area, although we are roughly 40 minutes from downtown denver, co. I would never have even thought of charging 4.00 a dz. I know you should price to your worth, but I was planning on selling for $2 a dz, and was thinking of maybe going to $2.50. We just started raising, so it will be a while before we can start selling, but I already have people who are listing for our eggs! we will be doing free range with supplemental feeding once they get old enough, although i'm not sure i'll be worrying about organic so much as local and sustainable feeds (and non medicated of course!)

This is supposed to be for what you charge for the eggs you sell. A lot of people sell for $2 -$4/dozen for fresh eggs, depending on where they live and they supply/demand for them in their area.

I can get free range fresh eggs from a lady at the farmers market for $3.00 a dozen. I call her a couple of days before the market and ask for unwashed, unrefrigerated and she sets them aside, so I know the eggs I get on Thursdays were gathered on Wednesday and Thursday. Her eggs are also fertilized, so we are going to incubate a few and see what happens.
Another vendor at the market, a local chicken farmer sells his eggs for $4.00 a dozen, his chickens are kept in runs on fresh pasture grass, but not free ranged.

In southern NH I see eggs labelled "Organic" at the farmer's markets selling for $4.00, and "Free Range" for $3.50.

The local feed store in Candia, NH sells their free range eggs for $2.00 although they're not labelled as such. Several of our neighbors sell theirs for $2.00 also, and I see those birds ranging all over their property.

We only have 6 hens (we hope they're all hens), so we don't expect to get enough eggs to bother selling them. We'll just give the extras to friends and family.

This list is fabulous, thanks for taking the time to put it together!!!!!!!

Washington State: 2 hours south of Seattle, My senior citizen clients pay $2.25 per dozen, families pay $3.00 per dozen and I charge my commercial customers pay $3.50 per dozen and I only charge the commercial customers more because they have to have a new blank cartons with my labels on them per state regs. It's much easier to recycle and reuse all the donated egg cartons that everyone gives when they see the egg ladies/gentlemen coming, I love it when they ask me if I could use some egg cartons.
