COTTONWOOD -- Chickens will become more common in Cottonwood if the City Council moves on its current track. Tuesday, the council reviewed a proposed ordinance that would allow up to six chickens in R-1 and R-2 residential zones. But by the end of the evening, the council was proposing that keeping chickens be allowed in R-1, R-2 and R-4 zones with as many as 12 chickens in a flock.

Ruben Jauregui objected to the original proposal that poultry not be slaughtered on a property. He said the entire proposal needs to stand on codes of cleanliness. The council agreed and that restriction was also removed.
