I use a game bird pellet for my turkeys. Can my quail handle the size?

Is it a cylindrical pellet? or a crushed crumble? If its the round pellets (like rabbit pellets) then they need to be crushed.

If you are grinding food beware making it too powdery. It can cause respiratory failure.

It depends on the size of the pellet. My jumbo brown coturnix eat gamebird pellets just fine. Smaller quail should get the crumbles.

DC is correct, quail are susceptible to dusty atmospheres, don't make powder out of their food it can hurt their lungs.

I grind for a cornmeal consistency, or coarse sand (like blasting sand, if you've seen that)

It should not produce a dust cloud when you pour it.
