Coturnix quail chicks attacking button quail chicks

Coturnix quail chicks are only 8 hours old and twice the size as the button chicks who is 2 days old, incubated same time.

how can a baby bird not even a day old become so aggressive?

its chases the button chicks and grabs it with its beak and shakes it, the button chicks run away in fear

doesnt make sense.

Chicks bully each other. I have had half a day old chicks that I hatched with one that was a couple hours younger and was still a little weak and they all came at it like they wanted to eat him! Chicks will bully/peck everyone else who does not or cannot defend themselves. Separate the button quail from the others so that they do not get injured! do you only have one button quail? If so that might be a little bit of a problem!

i had 3 cortonix chicks, 1 died for a unknown reason so i have 2 left and 5 button chicks, tiny in size, ive separated the 2 but think another will die because his right side of his head has swollen up and i dont know why

it could be pecking, I had six eggs and the numbers just drop from failed pipping to failed hatches and being born with issues so might just have 1 left out of the six, which is bad becuase they seem they dont like being alone

Quail chicks also peck at anything: wings, toes, whatever they can grab, sometimes dragging other chicks around, they can hurt smaller chicks by accident to say nothing of bullying smaller birds like your poor buttons, definitely wouldn’t hatch odd sized poultry together, incubate fine but hatching they need their own space be it turkeys or quail or Guinea fowl. Are you hatching shipped eggs? The trauma during shipment can cause all sorts of issues even post hatch.
