Pasco county, FL.
Today is day 16 for my eggs.
23 were put into the bator.
This morning one had pipped.
Around 10 am another pipped zipped and was out in just a few minutes. (got vid if you would like to see it!).
Went to eat and came back to see another pip and zip within just a few minutes.
The first to pip has not done anything! I can't see the hole anymore thanks to "Tank"
My first to hatch, he is a brute!
Then the third started to work, this one started just before the second, but took much more time, at what seems to be a much harder shell.
This one was one hard fighter. At this point the 3rd one was so tired! "Tank" #1 came over and grabbed #3
and yanked it right out of its open shell by its wing.

I read not to open and bother them, but! Tank was out to hurt the other two, so into the brooder with him he goes!
He is happy there he is eating and drinking just as soon as I put him in there.

I call the first "Him", "Tank" because I know in my heart this is a male chick.
What are quail called as far as sex goes?

Will update as soon as I get more out of there shell!

So far I am at 13% I am sure this number will go up soon.

#4 almost out!

Hey Sam, I started with 30,of those 23 were what I put in.
The other 7 had a hard trip from to P.O.
#4 is still working on zipping, seems to be wanting to just come out the hole it has made instead of turning and zipping, #2 and #3 seem to be helping it!

A 5th egg has moved a few times so I think it will be next.

This is so cool to watch! So much for getting anything done today!

The males are cocks, just like chickens, as far as I know.
Congratulations!

I had a very robust hatch from Sam's flock (16/23, but one was born with intestines out and had to be put down). The rest are doing great! I know what you mean by calling him "Tank"... some of them just seem to bowl over the others, walk on them, etc...

Thank you!
This 4th one is just pecking at the same hole.
Is it stuck? I know they are very tired but the others all turned and I guess they say "zipped" and the shell opened for them, with some work of course. But this one just keeps working the same spot. I guess time will tell!

Oh no... just leave them be. My first ones pipped, then sat for two days before doing anything. Then they zipped and were out in 5 minutes.

I only had one pip and die before hatching, and I think that was because I had to open the incubator... one of the quail got stuck in the wire.

Well today is day 18 still only 4 have hatched.
I am happy with that number because they did have a hard trip getting here.
The fourth chick still was not coming out after 2 days so I did help it.
I just picked off the shell like the others did themselves. Then I let it finish by itself.
All four are happy and went right to eating and drinking.

I read some were the time line as to when they start to lay.
But I don't know were I saw it.
Can anyone tell me at what age they lay? I would like to know about my bob white also. Thanks

Here is a picture were you can see two of them. Sorry about the bad shot it is through the glass lid.
