Hi! We are new quail owners in the Chicago suburbs. We hatched some chicks, got the wrong food by mistake, so about half died, but once we figured out our error the rest lived. We (ok a carpenter) just built a coop in our backyard and quails seem pretty happy so far. I have tons of questions so have used this site a lot and finally decided to actually join.

Right now we have 6 quail, and I'm not sure how many are male/female. They haven't started laying, only one has crowed, and we can only tell the sex of one by the feather pattern. We'd like to get a few more females but I'm not sure where to get them.

Hey there and welcome!

if you need help with sexing or other quail questions, you can put up a post/pic in the quail forum. There’s lots of knowledgeable folks there to help.

Not to mention I personally love to look at little feathered footballs. :love
Edit: for more quail you might check out craigslist in your area.

Hah! That's what they are...feathered footballs...

But yeah, maybe I'll post some pics. Not ready to look for the "foam" yet, ugh...
