Coturnix Quail Male - are they always jerks to their ladies?

If you really want to keep all your birds, pair them up in separate cages. It's the competition that gets them wild and overzealous. Keeping 1:1 is a bit impractical though.

Thank you all again for more helpful info. I may try switching the boys around, and also adding more females. I think I will try incubating some eggs. Do you need to have a quail sized incubator? I should think it would work better.

You can get quail egg sized trays for certain incubators, or alternatively use ones where the eggs lay flat. Have a look at some different reviews in the reviews section of the forum ☺️

I read ages ago in another post that you can spray your females that are being overmated with a vinegar mix (you'd have to look it up, I don't want to give you the wrong ratio!) and it can neutralise their smell, which can confuse the male and move them along to the other females for a while (or at least give the overmated females a break!). That might be helpful if your male is hyperfocusing on a select few ladies and causing upset.

Thank you, Brandon. I won't be disappointed then. It really has gotten better with a bit of time. I am getting ready to move them into a larger cage, which might also help. The cage they are in measures large enough, but it might seem crowded because it's divided into two sections.
