Coturnix quail: Weird Egg, why so big?

So is this unusual? One of my hens dropped this rather odd, shaped egg and I am curious as to what might have caused this.

even the diameter of the egg is a fair bit larger than normal

Probably a double yolk. They happen sometimes, especially with new layers.

That might be it then, these are all young layers. Cool though!
