went out to feed and bring in the 3 eggs i am getting right now and one of my hens is scalped. i guess my question is do females also do the scalping? or is just a roo thing? i have 4 females to 1 male in each cage. if this is just a roo thing i will change out the roo with another or just remove him for now.

thanks

hey there, welcome to my world, i had to sacrifice 2 males that were scalped and now one female is hurt in the head. i have a bully female thats gonna be the next one, i notice her today bullying everyone. i posted here asking the same question as u, hopefully some expert could help us.
good luck

I'm starting to worry about these Coturnix... so many posts about bullies. I have already had a scalped one and she's in the house....

this is my second scalping in 2 weeks. the first was from my extra roo cage. i think i had them to close to a cage that had hens in it and it made them fight. i put the little bloody roo in his own cage and moved the other males so they could not see the hens and all is good now in the bachelor pad. i only have 8 hens and 5 males. So i really dint want my hens getting scalped. these are young birds that are just starting to lay. so i really need all the hens to help build my little flock.

This usually only happens to mine in the beginning, it will get better. I usually remove the hurt quail and wait until it heals and put it back in.
I have heard people say on here that it is the hens that do it but I had a pair of goldens that I put in together, the male scalped the hen bad and I thought he had taken out one of her eyes(when it healed though the eye was fine) so the males can be the cause as well.
