Found out there is a cougar in the neighborhood the day after my goose disappeared. Cougar was seen next door. I think I know where my poor goose went.

Don't jog, bike, hike, or ride a horse in the neighborhood until this dangerous animal has moved on. The sudden appearance of a human or other animal seeming to flee can trigger an attack of convenience by pumas, cougars, jaguars or other large predators like wolves and bears. They are only following their natural instinct which is "If it flees it bleeds" and that just makes you a toothsome morsel.

Well that is crazy... I see you live in Montana so I guess it is not that crazy. Better the goose than something more valuable. (Not to downplay the goose). Felis Concoloris.....we don't have them here in Macon. That cat will likely be back. I would take precautions. I m sure you already know more than I about that. Bear Spray for sure...

I'm a city girl from Pittsburgh but met a wonderful man who moved me to Montana. The property is just a 1/2 mile from town, but it's country out here. We have had bear, cougars, bob cats, and moose on the property on occasion, not every year. It's not a regular thing. Have been told that Fish and Wildlife has tried to trap this cat, maybe because the elementary school is not far away. Friends have offered me another pair of geese but I turned them down. No sense in offering another meal to the cougar. If it can't find anything to eat it will go away.

cougars not fun. had one kill my cat years ago. had one go through our land this last winter.

but at least where i live we can now legally trap them in season :)

I was told I could shoot the cougar if I saw it after my critters. I only have a 22. Not sure if that would do the job unless it was a great head shot.

Although Cougars are amazingly easy to reduce to possession, unless I get a brand new pair of Kevlar BDVs for Fathers' Day, this old country boy 'ain't' going to go plinking no mountain lion with no squirrel gun.

That is an amazing statement on your part especially seeing that you're from Pittsburgh and that you wasn't raised on the land.
