Splash Marans chick.....2wks old
Sometime between 2pm and 530pm today, this chick started coughing/sneezing and twisting its head while doing so. It's also making a faint clicking sound while breathing. To me (and I'm new to chickens) it also seems to be breathing heavily, but I don't know if that's just 'about to fall asleep' baby chick breathing or if it's actually labored breathing. Its breathing is definately faster than the other 2 chicks in the brooder, but they are a little older (one is 3 wks and one is almost 5 wks) than the one in question.
No signs of outward physical injury.
I have no idea what may have caused this. We got this chick, along with 2 others on Saturday, and DH said that we wouldn't be getting any more birds there, since it didn't seem like the nicest of environments to him (he picked them up as I was at work that night).
AFAIK, the bird is still eating (medicated starter) and drinking (tap water with a little ACV), chicks are on pine shavings in my kiddie pool brooder in the basement.
I'm unsure about the poop. There was some red in it, but I don't know if that was blood or not.
I have not administered any treatment. I have seperated the chick, but will probably put it back in with the other 2 overnight since I only have 1 light.
I need to treat this myself, since I'm not willing to spend $$ on a $3 chick.
