Could a hen disturbed while laying become egg bound as a result?

I have had two egg bound hens in the last 2 1/2 weeks. They are getting calcium in the form of free choice oyster shell. They also get eggs w/ the egg shells and raw dairy.

They are getting plenty of sunlight so they should be getting enough vitamin D to utilize the calcium they are getting.

I have about 20 hens and 10 egg boxes but they really only like to use about 3. So sometimes they argue about who is going to sit on a nest.

I am wondering if somehow these two hens were interuped while laying and unable to lay???? Is that a possible or likely scenario and if so could that cause them to egg bind?

Thanks!

I don't know the answer to your question, but I've read here that black oil sunflower seeds are recommended to help prevent egg binding.

Yes, stress can cause them to become eggbound.

But, it's pretty common for hens to fight over nest boxes and they can delay laying for a few hours if they need to. It sounds like you're doing everything right...hopefully it's just a fluke that you got two in 2 weeks.
