Hi..I have a friend thats not really supposed to be able to get pregnant. She's done IVF and the whole 9 yards. Finally she found out that she had a genetic disease. Her IVF doctor said that she did still ovulate but that getting pregnant was a very, very slim chance. This was many years ago...
Well..shes now taken 3 of the over the counter pee-stick tests. And all 3 are positive. Shes freaking out..shes 36 and decided long ago that she did not want any children anymore. Shes content with her life as it is now. So..my question is could it possibly be a false positive? MAybe her hormones are going nuts, maybe shes going into early peri-menopause?(which would go along with her genetic disease..) Would that throw the tests off? Thanks for any help/advice that i can send her way.

As long as she is not taking any odd fertility drugs then, NO- pregnancy test will never show a false positive.

They may show a false negative because of low hormone levels (say if you were only 5 or 7 days preggers) but will never show a false positive.

I have MANY friends who get knocked up after giving up on fertility treatments. It is a stress thing.

No booties. Send her DIAPERS!

Pregnancy tests are for HCG, which your body doesn't produce unless it's producing a child

She can go to the health clinic and get a free one done just to be on the safe side..But i would say that she proubly is...And if i got pregnate now i would shot my husband cause i told him to get fixed when i did but nooooo.....So yeah hubby would be taking care of the baby....

How far along does she think she is? Tell her not to worry until week 7, and not to tell anyone else or start planning until week 12.

If she has had fertility issues before, it may be better not to stress out until she HAS to stress out.

I'd start planning that baby shower!

ETA: if she's taken 3 tests, all 3 positive, and has had problems before, then she should get in to see her doctor ASAP.

Surprise, surprise!

Well, she has 9 or so months to get used to the idea.

If it were me, I'd probably rush right out to the doctors office to check for something that might give a false positive. I can't think of anything...but that's what we pay doctors for!

What made her get a pregnancy test, if she thought that wasn't even a possibility?
