On April 11 I bought 10 chicks from Orchlins. 4 strait run welsummers 3 was pullets, 2 BR pullets, 2 NH pullets. 2 BO pullets. 1 of my BRs turned out to be a roo. I decided that 10 was too many for my 8 by 20 ft. pen. So I gave my wellie roo and 2 pullets to a friend. Then I had BR roo and 6 pullets. Then my next door neighbor wanted to me to get rid of my roo because he woke her up every morning. So i gave him to another friend. Well now another friend has domineqhes. He says his roo very seldom crows. And all the times Ive been there to visit I might have heard him crow maybe a couple of times. Hes got 9 chickens out of this roo and his hens that are about 11 weeks old. 2 of them are roos neither one of them has ever crowed. He said to take one them and if it did not work out he would take him back. Could I get lucky enough to get a roo that did not bother my neighbor. And my 15 week old pullets are quite of bit bigger would like they like him. This question is mostly for fun but would love some honest input.

Once the new roo has the run of your place without competition from a more dominant roo, you are more than likely to hear him crow!

I think it's at least worth a try and if he starts the morning crowing, re-home him. Or you could try kenneling him at night in a covered doggy sky kennel and let him out after daybreak?
