Ok, here's the thing. I'm on the 3rd sit of the year with not even one peep.

In March I had my Lavender Ameraucana's Sitting on 14 eggs with no success. I started to Try and learn how to candle eggs. I would see things like extra calcium on an egg and think it was something. I would see stress cracks that were repaired and think it was veins and then the eggs started to become dark. I was just sure it was young chicks filling out the egg. Nope, was just the white part of the egg staining and going bad. That hatch was suppose to hatch March 25th. O% hatched.

The next sit was April's disaster. At this point we just wanted some chicks and use eggs from all 8 of our hens. I had two hens sitting on 12 eggs apiece. So, 24 total. I was more patience with this group and did not disturb then their hatch date came and went and 6 days after I gave them no chance I took the eggs. I broke several as I was just curious. I got nothing. Not even some veins. 0% hatch.

Here we go again. I let the old girls give it a shot this time. My old Easter Egger went broody as I was lazy collecting eggs that week. she started that week with 9 eggs. A day or two went by and Rosie our old Oprington went broody too. I took all the eggs from 3 coops and put them under the two hens. So, they had about 15 a piece the were about 3 days apart.

Well,Well, This is that 3 day even the late started eggs should hatch and I don't have the strength to move the hens to look but, I don't even hear one peep.

sigh...….

I think you've answered the question yourself. The birds look nice and healthy, but the cockerel must be infertile if all of the eggs are. Keep him as a yard pet, sure, but to breed more chicks, you'll have to get a new cockerel. Maybe try buying some hatching eggs and sitting them under one of your broodies? Hopefully you can get a nice little cockerel out of those ready for next year.

At least it’s an easy problem to fix... free roosters everywhere!!!
It is but, this guy is awesome. He is a very gentle soul. He take treats politely and then offers them to his hens. He make sure everyone is feed first. If a squabble breaks out somewhere he is johnnie on the spot to restore peace. He even gets along with our dogs.
