Okay, I went out to the chicken coop today, and I looked in the nesting boxes and on the floor as always...but today some stuff was different.

In two of the nesting boxes, it looked like one (or two) of the pullets had kinda scratched out a little bowl-shaped hole in both of the nesting boxes' shavings, and they normally NEVER mess with the boxes. Also, under the boxes, there was also another little bowl-shaped hole dug in the shavings under the boxes, and one of my pullets was kinda walking over to it every once in a while (not anxious or anything really), and also looking up in the boxes (which she NEVER does).

Could one of them be getting ready to lay!?!?!?!?

When I had my first flock of chickens, I kept them in a little portable tractor and coop that I made. The egg box was detached from the rest of it with an access door. I put an old Coke crate with shavings inside. Each day I'd check that thing 2 or 3 times. Finally, I opened it and there was the prettiest little brown egg you could imagine!

To this day, I am amazed that those chickens knew to get in that old Coke crate and lay their eggs. They always did and never missed.

Keep a-watchin' and just be patient!

Yep, sounds like they're getting ready to lay. Especially if you are seeing their combs red and they squat when approached. You might want to put a golf ball in each nest so they learn that that's where the eggs go instead of under the roosts. You might even mess up the nest under the nest boxes so they are not attracted to it.

Thanks guys
