I have always had hawks and raccoons and other such predators long before I had chickens so upfront I knew I had to protect them big time. Hardware cloth walls and roof on the run with the coop inside the run. I also installed hardware cloth apron around the entire perimeter to prevent diggers. My 7 birds do not free range but they have about 300sqft of run half of which is shaded with a sort of roof and the other half is hardware cloth only to allow sunny areas. Could you increase the size of your run and not free range them? Not as much fun, I know, but since mine can't forage I take the foraging to them. Clippings, garden waste, and now plans for a garden inside the run (with chicken wire protecting the ground and roots) work very well.
