I've been under the impression I've been raising 8 hens. They are on average4.5-5 months old. There is one that I question and was wondering if ya'll could help me. Thoughts on whether or not this hen could be a rooster? I believe it may be a silly question, just looking for some third party opinions. Thanks!

Yea, I was trying to get a natural pic but it was impossible and I ran out of time. 4 1/2 months old.....My reason for questioning is the difference in color in head, (larger and redder) features and the differing behavior from the rest. This one is fast....only one I have trouble catching; quite a fighter. There aren't any long tail feathers....so I don't know. She was bought as a pullet....

It's a she. should have been getting eggs from her already.. she looks past the start of laying age- her comb face and wattles are of a hen currently laying.

if it were a roo, the whole neck, back would have been covered in extremely shiny and sharp tipped feathers plus being much larger than females of same age.

Awesome, thank you very much. Yea I actually just got my first egg yesterday morning. All of my hens are around 4.5 months old. The egg I got was smaller than normal, though I looked that up and it seems pretty common especially when the hen is just beginning to lay for the first time. This one is just a loud one (always talking up a storm) and hasome good fight in her! I have eight that I bought as pullets, the oldest being around 4.5 months: I have four pairs, one each of RIR, production reds, black sex links, and last a pair of Barred Rocks. Hoping to get plenty of eggs!
