explain to (one) of my CM hens that she can't go broody right now! I know they where all (with the exception of one) really good moms and toke good care of their babies, but I don't have room for any more chickens. I currently have to find homes for 7 roos and several hens.
Sorry just had to get that out of my system. Even though I would love to have chicks around again

Ok, you listen hen..... none of that sitting on eggs stuff. Who do you think your are Kate... Octomom? Its time for you to start laying eggs for your mom to eat or sell. No more freeloading!

hope that helps

I am wanting one of my girls to go broody but I am not telling my DH this because I am suppose to get some silkies in the near future and he will not build a tractor for me if I let this happen!

Thanks, but I don't mind the freeloading my refrigerator is over flowing.

I'll tell her to send her broody "dust" your way

They don't listen very well do they? You could always put her in a broody buster for a few days, that usually does the trick.

Sort of, but you can leave the broody buster in the coop with the rest of the flock. You take a wire bottom cage that is big enough for the hen and her food and water. It works best if the cage is off the ground so that there is plenty of air flow underneath it to help cool her off. The idea is to put her somewhere that she has no access to a nest and after a few days she'll stop being broody.
